Elkins Manfredi Architecture Firm was the lead architectural designer on this prime property in the bustling Boston Seaport District. Elkins Manfredi is a highly acclaimed, full-service design firm with award winning projects across the country. Their client on this project was an international business consulting firm looking to create a new headquarters.
Part of the design team's vision was a unique use of glass block not typically seen before. Glass block has historically been utilized in interior design for its ability not only to separate spaces, but also to allow natural light to pass while still governing the amount of privacy. Architects love glass block for its universal ability to rely more on natural light in modern work spaces. The design team worked with GBA to realize this vision.
From collaboration in original concept, detailing, dimensioning, and ultimately supply and install, we created beautiful serpentine glass walls. A rectangular, half glass block in a wavy pattern was used. They chose a rectangular half block to create a more traditional masonry running bond, not typical to glass block.
Turner Construction Company, the projects' General Contractor, and GBA were able to seamlessly incorporate doors and passages into the walls where needed. The result was a striking final product both unique and functional.
