Getting Your Windows Ready for the Hurricane Season
We can help you. We’ve been in the glass block industry for over 30 years. For more information on our Hurricane Windows: GBA Hurricane-Resistant Windows
One of the most significant preparations you can have for a hurricane is your windows. The frustrating part of hurricanes is the inability to just put in protection when you know a severe storm is coming. Planning your hurricane window installation requires prepping in advance, even if you don’t know when they’ll strike. Hurricane-resistant windows act as an insurance policy.
Hurricane Windows Code Approval:
According to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, to be classified as a hurricane, winds must reach up to 74 mph. The higher the category of winds, the more strength you’ll need in your window.
To test the strength of a hurricane window, they must pass the code of:
- Meeting the standards of large missile impact tests referenced in the International Building Code (IBC), in accordance with ASTM E-1886 and ASTM E-1996.
- Meeting the Florida and Dade County Approval protocols (TAS 201,202,203).
Besides wind, your window should be able to withstand the impact of rain and debris. Whether its from physically breaking through, or if it is from seeping through cracks around the glass block; they all cause damage to the interior of your home. With hurricane windows, you have the full comfort of total protection.
